We believe that we are an outstanding middle school because we provide a safe, well organized environment, where adults know, like, and understand adolescents.
Help For Haiti
Last
week, students dropped their loose change and more into the Haiti relief
canisters at lunch. Contributions were collected on Tuesday through Friday.
The level of compassion was heartwarming. Students were anxious and excited
about helping the cause. We are proud to announce that the grand total of
collections was $1600. The American Red Cross will receive $1600. Thank you to
everyone who took part in this relief
effort.
Girls Exploring Tomorrow's Technology
Save the Date for the 10th annual Girls Exploring Tomorrow's Technology Event. It will be held on March 20, 2010 at Penn State Great Valley from 9:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is free for girls in grades 6 -12. Students, parents and educators are welcome to attend. More information will follow soon!
Keystone Exams
KMS Parents are
cordially invited to attend the next Kennett Kennect (KHS Parents Group) meeting
on February 4th at 7:00 pm in the KHS Library. Dr.
Gehrt will update us on the newly enacted Keystone Exams—graduation tests which
will have a big impact on our students—especially students who are in
7th grade or below since the tests are being phased in and will be
fully implemented for the lucky Class of 2015! In addition, Dr. Barry Tomasetti,
the new KCSD Superintendent, will join us to meet parents and answer questions
in a relaxed atmosphere. We hope you can join us.
Save the Dates for these great events put on by our Guidance Department:
Parents of 7th grade girls, save the date: March 19, 2010 for G.O.L.D. (Girls Only Listen and Discuss)—a special night for 7th grade girls that focuses on everything from peer pressure to body image. It is held in the evening and has been a big hit the past three years.
Everyone!
May 20th—the KMS Career Day Fair. A very
professional event run by our Guidance Office. If you are willing
to talk to students about your career (the most popular speaker two years ago
was an industrial hygienist ), please save the date. More information will be
posted soon.
Career Day
To prepare for Career Day-the Guidance Counselors asked 8th graders what careers they would like to hear about. If you or know someone that could talk about a career, please contact Dionne Delaney in the Guidance Office to let her know you can volunteer on May 20th. You can reach Ms. Delaney at ddelaney@kcsd.org. The Guidance Department does an extremely professional job with Career Day—I can tell you from experience that you will be very proud of how you and /or your friend or colleague will be treated by KMS if they are willing to spend the day with our students!
The
middle school years are full of tremendous growth and development.
During this time a number of thoughts, feelings, and frustrations can
arise as students navigate through this uncharted territory. When
family changes are added to the dynamic, things become even more
complicated. In many cases, the stress associated with these changes
can have a negative affect on academic performance.
In response the KMS Guidance Department is hosting a Changing Families
group. This group is designed to support students whose
families are dealing with a separation or divorce. It is for students
in grades 6, 7, or 8. If you are interested in having your son or
daughter participate or if you would like to learn more, please contact
your child’s Counselor.

Absence, Early Dismissal, Late Arrival procedures
The following is the procedure for absences, early dismissals and late arrivals at KMS.
Absences
If your child is absent on a given day, please call the school, (610) 268 5878, to notify us. Additionally, a note MUST be sent in upon your child’s return to school; without the note, your child’s absence will be considered unexcused.
Early Dismissals
If you know you will be picking your child up during school hours, please send a note in with your child on that day stating the time they are to be dismissed from class. The school will issue your child a pass to come to the office at that time. You must come into the Main Office to sign your child out.
Late Arrivals
In the event your child will be late to school, your child MUST sign in with the Attendance Secretary, located in the Guidance Office. Please send your child in with a note stating the reason for their tardiness.
Pick ups AFTER the school day
If you choose to pick your child up after the school day, the arrangement is between you and your child. KMS does not need a note for after school pick ups.
For more details on the above items, please refer to pages 27 and 28 of the Student Handbook sent home with your child..
