Last week, Kennett Middle School kicked-off the school year with its first assembly. Former federal cybercrime prosecutor and current cybersecurity lawyer Mr. Ed McAndrew provided an Internet safety presentation to each grade. The presentations explored the popular areas of our students’ online world, including online and mobile gaming, selfies, Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube, Kik, and Musical.ly, to name a few. Mr. McAndrew discussed the potential dangers that children face in the online world – including cyberbullying, hacking and malware that destroys devices, identity theft, and sexual exploitation – and strategies for avoiding and responding to them. The students also talked about the concept of digital privacy and the critical role that each of us must play in the responsible use of the wonderful technology at our fingertips.
