Protecting Yourself and Others in a Digital World – August 2017

Last week, Kennett Middle School kicked-off the school year with its first assembly. Former federal cybercrime prosecutor and current cybersecurity lawyer Mr. Ed McAndrew provided an Internet safety presentation to each grade. The presentations explored the popular areas of our students’ online world, including online and mobile gaming, selfies, Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube, Kik, and Musical.ly, to name a few. Mr. McAndrew discussed the potential dangers that children face in the online world – including cyberbullying, hacking and malware that destroys devices, identity theft, and sexual exploitation – and strategies for avoiding and responding to them. The students also talked about the concept of digital privacy and the critical role that each of us must play in the responsible use of the wonderful technology at our fingertips.

We wanted to remind you that we have our Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. The attached letter will be distributed to all students in all first periods tomorrow morning.

Before arriving, please ask your child to tell you who their first period teacher is and where he/she is located. In the first period, you will receive a copy of your child’s full schedule and a map that you will follow for the remainder of the night.

As always, please try to carpool because our parking lot fills quickly. Parking is available in the front and back of the school. Please be cautious and safe on Sunny Dell Road. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday night!
