ATTENTION STUDENTS: Student Council will be hosting a canned food drive throughout the month of November to benefit the Kennett Area Food Cupboard. Almost 500 families receive food from the Food Cupboard each month, and 80% of their clients come from the Kennett Consolidated School District. If you are willing to donate, please bring in canned food items (such as canned fruit, soup, beans, juice, and tuna) and place them in the boxes at the end of each wing. Thanks for your support in advance!

Plastic straws are one of the main ocean plastic polluters, help us change that! The goal of “No Straw November” is to bring awareness to the many plastic straws that are being used once and then thrown away in a single month. Jr Ocean Guardians challenges you to refuse plastic straws the whole month of November and to keep a tally of how many straws you eliminated from potentially ending up in the ocean.

This week we are supporting the Kennett Public Library in their effort to raise awareness about homelessness. This week of recognition is called PECYEH and stands for Pennsylvania Education for Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness.

FCA huddle meets this Thursday at 6:50 am in Mr Bowling’s room, B104. FCA is open to all students. Bring a friend and come check it out!

There will be a meeting for winter cheerleading on Thursday, November 16th from 2:45-4:30. Meet Coach Schuessler outside the girls locker room. All physical paperwork must be turned in to the nurse before practice. Lastly, All football cheerleaders must hand in their uniforms at this meeting.

Attention Boys! Basketball tryout dates have changed. They will now be held on November 28th, November 29th and December 1st.

This Friday during all lunches, we will have a guest speaker join us to talk about careers in dance and what it takes to become a professional dancer. Sign-up sheets are on the windows outside the guidance office. There is limited space and this Friday is almost here, so sign-up right away!

The votes are in and we have some local winners for The Lion’s Club Peace Poster contest! Caitlyn Rowles poster “Doves Build Peace” was the 1st place winner. Karen Juarez- Hemandez’s “Scramble” and Juila Trask’s “What Peace Looks Like in my Future” were both tied for 2nd place.

Our apologies for the technical difficulties with the announcements yesterday morning. The equipment in the TV Studio is getting a big upgrade but a few things are not completely set up as you may have seen or heard yesterday. Until the installation is complete, we will need to move our morning announcements from the TV studio to the intercom. For those of you who keep your TVs on throughout the day, we will still broadcast the scrolling slides as normal from the TV Studio.

The TV studio had been updates to 16 by 9 format. Temporarily things will be a little off. We are working very hard to get it all up and running smoothly.

What a busy month October has been. Let’s think back. We celebrated Red Ribbon Week and wore red support the key to staying drug free. We wore pink on Wednesdays and even had a hat day in support of breast cancer. We have so many family members and friend fight the battle against cancer. We wore orange to stand in support for Leukemia which is the number one cause of childhood cancer deaths. You all wrote such inspirational notes that were delivered to children in the cancer center at CHOP. How awesome! We have raised money and donated supplies for our adopted school in Houston. Kennett Middle School, you are amazing! We are so proud of you!!!!

Attention 7th Grade:

  • The 7th Grades’ Got Talent is NOT our ALL IN event. 7th Grade’s Got Talent is a fundraiser for Adopt-A-Family helping making the holiday season brighter for our community. Your $3 admission is a donation to adopt a family. Admission is required to attend.
  • The 7th grade ALL IN event is Monday morning, November 6th. Activities will be posted today at lunch.

There will be an informational meeting today for anyone interested in Reading Olympics. We will meet at all lunch periods in the library. Please plan to attend if you are interested in participating.

Thursday, November 2, 2017 Day 4

Attention 7th Grade Students: Please remember to bring in $3 to donate to our Adopt-A-Family event. The $3 is the cost of admission to watch “7th Grade’s Got Talent” The deadline is tomorrow. Please give the $3 to your 6th period teacher.

Any 7th grade student who received a movie slip during 1st period yesterday, please make sure to select two movie choices outside of B205 by the end of the day.

Congratulations to both the 7th and 8th grade football teams as they both rolled to victory against Unionville last night in their first ever night game. The stadium was electric as the 7th grade won 22-6 to remain unbeaten and finish with a perfect 7-0 record. Scoring by Julian Sparacino and Aiden Dzebski and solid defense throughout the game was the difference. The 8th grade team played solid throughout the game with scoring by Colby Bushweller, Jake Freeberry, and Connor Jung. The 8th grade defense was simply too much for Unionville as Kennett rolled to a 22-0 shutout to finish the season 5-3. Great night, lots of money raised for hurricane relief, and a great season for both teams!

Thanks to the cheerleaders who cheered the football teams to victory. They rocked the house.

Thanks to all the teachers, students, and families who came out to support the football fundraiser for our Texas friends. Tomorrow we will see a video about the event.

Student Council is hosting a hat day today to benefit Mrs. Madigan’s Team Kicking Cancer, which recently participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Run on the Wilmington Waterfront. If you are wearing a hat, please give $1 to your homeroom teacher.

The 7th grade field hockey team played their final game of the season yesterday against Pierce Middle School ending with a 1-1 tie. Shout out to Ava Gavin for her first half inspirational goal. The girls end their season with an impressive 7-1-1 record. Hard work all season paid off. Way to go 7G. #we heard it.

The Middle School wraps up it football season tonight against Unionville. AND IT’S A NIGHT GAME!!! The 7th grade game will be played at 5:30 and the 8th grade kick-off is scheduled for 7:00. Both games will be played at the Kennett High School Varsity field. Proceeds from the game and donations will go to Hurricane Harvey relief for the Galena Park Middle School (in Texas).please remember to bring donations to the football game such as school supplies (new), socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, coloring books, etc. It will be a great night to come out to support a great cause and cheer on the team!!

Reminder to all cross-country runners, we have an early dismissal at 2:15 pm today. Please have your shorts, t-shirt, and sneakers available for our final event and banquet. Take just your clothing and sneakers and coat on the bus with you. Leave all other items in the counseling areas for safety. We will pick them up prior to heading out to our banquet dinner at Northbrook. Please make sure you are on the bus before 2:20 pm. We must leave by 2:20! Those not on the bus at 2:20 will have to arrange their own transportation to our destinations. Can’t wait to celebrate our final fun evening together!
