Thursday, December 21, 2017 Day 6

Today, the last day of school in 2017, is a Power Up day for Kennett Squares. This means…any Kennett Square earned today counts as 2! Good luck!

Today is day 6. We have a delightful Holiday Break. We start back to school Tuesday January 2nd and that will be a Day 1. Be prepared with everything you need.

Attention KMS…6th Graders, 7th Graders, and 8th Graders! Here is the last and final clue to reveal the title of the 2018 KMS Musical.

Clue #4: This year’s musical is based on a movie released to theaters within most KMS students’ lifetime that has 4 sequel and spin-off movies and includes animals… wait here’s Mrs. Uster right now!

(paused for Mrs. Uster’s part)

All students interested in performing on stage or working back stage on Stage Crew should listen carefully to these important details and dates:

All stage performers: Actors, singers, dancers, and tumblers: The meetings to teach you how to be prepared for auditions are Thursday, January 4th and Friday, January 5th after school from 2:35-4:30 in the cafeteria. You should attend one, but you may attend both to be more confident and feel more prepared for your audition. If you do not attend one of these meetings, you may not be best prepared to audition. Everyone who performs on stage must audition, but everyone who auditions will be invited to perform in the musical in May.

Students interested in working on Stage Crew: You must attend ONE of the meetings on Thursday, January 4th ORFriday, January 5th after school from 2:35-3:45 in the cafeteria. At this meeting you will hear from Mrs. Coe what the different roles are and what is done back stage. You will pick your top 3 role choices.

There will also be an informational meeting for parents of students interested in performing or joining Stage Crew on Thursday, January 4 at 6:30pm. This meeting is primarily for parents of students interested in the KMS Musical for the first time, but all parents are welcome.

If you have any questions, please see or contact Mrs. Uster or Mrs. Coe as soon as possible.

Congratulations to the KMS 8th Grade girls basketball team on their solid team victory yesterday vs. ChiChester.

The score was 30-9. All of the starting 5 scored. It was a break out game for Vivian Chiomento who led all scorers with 14 points and she was PERFECT from the line. Shut Down defense in the 2nd half allowed only 1 basket to be scored by Chi.

The team goes into the winter break with a 4 and 2 record. Great Job ladies!

Please stay tuned for student of the month and then a special surprise from our German class.

HAVE A GREAT DAY KMS!!!

KMS Supports Leukemia

Mr. Ruebeck works at Kennett Middle School and here is his story:

“I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocyte Leukemia in November of 2014. I was 22 years old at the time. It was a very scary time for me, as I was nearing the end of college and starting an adult life. One afternoon I got very sick and couldn’t break the fever. The fever reached 103.8 and the doctors couldn’t figure out why the temperature wouldn’t go down. I was tested for everything under the sun. Finally, the doctor came in on Black Friday morning and suggested a bone marrow biopsy. It was the worst pain ever! Later that day I tested positive for Leukemia. The next morning they started me on chemotherapy, and so my journey of living with this disease began. Life stopped for a while, but eventually my normal life began to restart. In 2016, I went for my second bone marrow biopsy and was declared in remission.

This changed my life. Through this journey I’ve met many people going through the same thing but in a different way. I started a team called Lymphomaniacs! We walk for the cause every year! I hope this year you help me celebrate my 1 year mark of remission by walking with me and sporting ORANGE!”

The students of Kennett Middle School listened, learned, walked, and wrote letters. Many students’ wrote words of encouragement to children suffering from this disease and Mr. R delivered them to Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania. We participated in this event during physical education classes.
