The presentations explored the popular areas of our students’ online world, including online and mobile gaming, selfies, Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube, Kik, and Musical.ly, to name a few. Mr. McAndrew discussed the potential dangers that children face in the online world – including cyberbullying, hacking and malware that destroys devices, identity theft, and sexual exploitation – and strategies for avoiding and responding to them. The students also talked about the concept of digital privacy and the critical role that each of us must play in the responsible use of the wonderful technology at our fingertips.

Tuesday theme for this year is Latin and Greek root of the week. What is the root of a word? (Pause) A basic word which has affixes are added is called a root word. Affixes are prefixes and suffixes and they form the basis of a new word. The root word is also a word in its own right. For example, the word lovely consists of the word love and the suffix -ly. The word love is a noun and the suffix ly changes the word into an adjective.
