Attention KMS, here is an important announcement from Mr. DeAngeles,
Good morning Kennett Middle School,
I am on the morning announcements today to talk to the entire building about a few things. First, I want to let you all know that your safety is the most important thing to me. We run an effective building and want to always keep it safe. Secondly, I count on all of us respecting each other each and every day. Respect comes in many forms. Respect is a concept that refers to the ability to value and honor another person, both his and her words and actions, even if we do not approve or share everything he or she does. It is accepting the other person and not trying to change them. Respecting another person is not judging them by their attitudes, behaviors or thoughts. It is not expecting for someone to be otherwise. Our differences are positive because it creates our identity. This means that individual differences exist, but above all to understand that as members of a society we are equal. All people are due respect for the simple fact of being people.
You may already know this, but on March 14th at 10am, there is a proposed national school walkout. Our Superintendent, Dr. Tomasetti sent a message home last week stating, that we will not encourage nor discourage our students’ involvement in this walkout nor discipline those who participate and return to class when the 17-minute time frame has ended. School staff will facilitate the walkout so that it is done in a safe, orderly, and respectful manner.
I stand by this message and truly believe that our students, no matter what their belief, will show respect and their Kennett PRIDE. If students decide to walkout, we ask that you exit like we do for our evacuation drills. You can stand in the back parking lot and be silent for the 17 minutes.
No matter if you walkout or stay inside, ALL school rules still apply. I want to remind everyone in our building that we are not here to judge anyone’s viewpoint and we will not make anyone feel uncomfortable whether they choose to stay inside or walk outside.
Lastly, is you feel upset or scared, please do not hesitate to tell an adult in the building, we are all trained in reporting and seeking help. There is a saying that says, if you see something, say something. Never will we take anything you say lightly or for granted because we respect you.
Have a great day KMS.
