Kennett Football competed in their final games of the season yesterday against Lionville.

8th grade won 16-14 with the two scores coming from a Wes Owens pass to Ryan Meehan and a David Lillis run! Converting both extra points was the difference in the game. Wes Owens and David Lillis both ran them in.

On Defense, Alex Gobel grabbed an Interception to take the ball away from Lionville.

Great team win and 8th grade ended their season 7-0-1!

7th grade also enjoyed a win by the score of 22-18.

Ian Guyer passed to Mitchell Houck for the first score of the game and Pierce Duckworth added a touchdown run. Ian Guyer had a monster kickoff return touchdown to open the third quarter for the Blue Demons.

Again extra points proved to be the difference-maker. Blake Boyer threw to Xavier McGreal for one and a big run up the middle by Landon Kelly put the Blue Demons ahead for good.

7th grade ended their season 5-1-1! A great season by KMS football!

KMS Helps the Community

Recently the Kennett Food Cupboard had a fire and lost 50% of their goods. KMS as members of this amazing community stepped up and really made a huge impact. We delivered one thousand four hundred pounds of non-perishable food items at the end of the week to the food cupboard. That was what the school could pull together in two days. It is truly amazing what we can do together when help is needed. We really showed Kennett PRIDE!

Attention all 8th-grade students – We are a week away from our trip to Washington, D.C. If you didn’t pick a group last week, please be sure to check in with your ELA teacher.

The first marking period ends Today, Monday, October 28. Look at Skyward make sure you have turned in everything. Good luck heading into marking period 2, which will begin tomorrow.

Lastly, be sure that you have handed in your conference sheets to your LEAD teacher.

Good morning KMS! It’s time for Mindful Monday. Here’s a Mindfulness tip to start your week. Did you know music can help you be mindful? If you have racing thoughts or need to stop overthinking, put on some songs that you love and listen; really listen, to the music, with your eyes closed (unless you’re walking of course as you don’t want to walk with your eyes closed). Calming music can have a direct effect on the part of the nervous system in charge of things you don’t have to think about like breathing, heart rate, and digestion. This may be why music is now being used therapeutically in emergency rooms as well as pain management and stress reduction programs. Do you have a favorite way to destress or something that you do that works for you when stressed? Think about if you have ever used a mindfulness strategy and found that it helped you. You can share these with your friends or just focus on them yourself.

Remember to use music or other mindfulness strategies to help reduce racing thoughts or overthinking.

KMS Library Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Kennett Middle School Library has been celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Books about different Hispanic countries, cultures, and food have been displayed for students to explore and check out. Fiction books starring a Hispanic protagonist have also been featured. When visiting the library with classes, students watched a video of some of their favorite Disney actors talking about their Hispanic heritage. After the video, students with Hispanic heritage were encouraged to place a dot on the city and country on the appropriate map displayed in the hallway to represent where their families are from. It has been a great experience for students to get to know each other more personally and students have enjoyed participating in the Hispanic Heritage Month activities.

The Power of Positivity

At KMS the girl’s locker room is filled with quotes and positive statements. We often call out, “We are women who can!” Every direction you look you will find encouraging statements. We come into this space and regroup and think positively! It is a very happy environment meant to be positive and supportive. The first picture is what the girls face when they walk into the room, “Hello Beautiful.” The girls love it!
