Monday, October 14, 2019 Day 3

Come one come all! This Sunday the Kennett Education Foundation is sponsoring the Monster Mash Dash. The race is in Anson B Nixon park at 4:30PM. You can walk or run the 5K. We get points for every KMS person in the race. Show your Kennett Pride and come out and participate in this worthy cause.

KMS students will now have the opportunity to become more mindful during their school days. KMS is offering a Mindfulness for Middle Schoolers Workshop, an 8 week, Stress Reduction Series. This Mindfulness series may help increase your focus and attention, help you respond versus react to situations, center and calm yourself, and also help you communicate better with your friends, family, and teachers. Overall, it just might help you stress less!

If you’re interested, please sign up in the Counseling Department office. Once signed up, your school counselor will reach out to you with more information. Hope you all consider signing up for this worthy series!

The school store will be open for 7th and 8th grade lunches every Tuesday and during 6th grade lunch every Thursday. The school store sells school supplies and spirit wear. You can bring cash or checks made out to KMS. If you would like to go to the school store during your lunch time, tell an adult and sign out. Come and check it out!

Kennett H.S. boys basketball team is hosting a 3 on 3 basketball tournament on Saturday, Nov. 2nd. It is open to boys and girls from 6th – 8th grades. If interested see Mr. Augustine for more details.

Friday, October 18, is the first Kennett Middle School Dance. The dance is 6:30 to 8:30. Talk to your parents about signing up to help out through the bottom of the bookbag.

Now over to an announcement from Ms. Davis.

Have a great day KMS!!

Good morning KMS, it’s time for MINDFUL MONDAY! Last week we learned that being mindful is the practice of being in the moment or paying attention to the HERE and NOW and we learned the mindfulness strategy of 3×3 to help us let go of the past or future worries.

Research shows that just by slowing down your breathing can have a powerful effect on relieving stress. When your breathing slows down, so does your heart rate, your muscles relax, and more oxygen gets delivered to your brain.

One thing we can control in most all situations even when situations around us may be stressful is our breathing.

This next mindfulness practice will help you learn to take slow deep breaths any time you feel worry or stress. It’s called 4…3…2…1 (similar to last weeks practice but with breathing this time)

Sitting quietly, use your senses and notice things around you

4 things you can see

3 things you can feel

2 things you can hear

And finally, let’s all take

1 breath together and inhale deeply for 4 seconds, 4…3…2…1 and exhale 4…3…2…1

Also, this is another reminder for KMS students who are interested in the opportunity to become more mindful during their school days. KMS is offering a Mindfulness for Middle Schoolers Workshop, an 8 week, Stress Reduction Series. It just might help you stress less!

Remember, if you’re interested, please sign up in the Counseling Department office. Once signed up, your school counselor will reach out to you with more information. Hope you all consider signing up for this worthy series!

Take care of yourself and peace out KMS!
