TCHS & Franklin Mint

On Friday, February 21, our eighth-grade students had the opportunity to tour the Chester Country Technical College High School (TCHS). The students were greeted by students and staff in the school cafeteria before exploring the various course options that TCHS has to offer. Students were given hands-on experience with everything from cosmetology to auto repair and everything in between. A good day was had by all and that wasn’t even the half of it.

The other half of the day, the 8th grade was fortunate enough to receive financial literacy training from the Franklin Mint. By providing real-world examples, students garnered a new understanding and appreciation for the intricacies of sustaining a personal budget. It was a rewarding day that will certainly serve all of our students well as they head into the future.

KMS Treble Choir Spends the Day at Temple University

Our KMS Treble Choir had a very exciting day. This group of seventh and eighth grade singers is an auditioned, extracurricular ensemble that performs 8-12 events each year throughout the area.

On February 20, 2020, Treble Choir took a field trip to Temple University for a full day of choral activities. They got to observe a rehearsal and sing with Dr. Paul Rardin’s Concert Choir – the top singing ensemble on TU. They will spend an hour or more in a workshop with Dr. Elizabeth Cassidy Parker, a middle school choral specialist. She used that time to work specifically with our students to develop their singing skills and fine-tune music for their other performances this year. After the workshop, students will get a guided tour of the campus. Then they closed the evening by singing The Star-Spangled Banner at the Temple vs. UConn men’s basketball game. What an amazing opportunity for these students and their fearless leader Mrs. Mancuso!

The winning recipe gets added to our menu.

Even though the U.S. banned the importation of the enslaved from Africa in 1808, the high demand for slave labor from the booming cotton trade encouraged Alabama plantation owners like Timothy Meaher (ME-HER) to risk illegal slave runs to Africa. In 1859 Meaher (ME-HER) ordered the sailing of the Clotilda (CLO-TILDA). The Clotilda (CLO-TILDA) is known to be the last ship to bring slaves into the US. It landed in Mobile (MO-BEAL), Alabama in 1860 with 109 Africans.
