Assistant Principal Goes from Ms. Levi to Mrs. Austin

It’s a rare thing to enjoy the people you see every day at work, let alone love them. But Kennett Middle School’s assistant principal Brenna Levi, now Mrs. Brenna Austin, loves her Kennett family so much that she had two of them officiate her wedding!

On December 30, 2017, Mrs. Austin married her husband, Mr. Kevin Austin, at the Mendenhall Inn in Kennett Square. Her colleagues, Kennett Middle School principal Mr. Lorenzo DeAngelis and assistant principal Mr. Jake Moore served as the officiants, as well as groomsmen, for the big day.

“They are the best coworkers and two of my best friends,” said Mrs. Austin. “They wrote a very personal, creative, and memorable ceremony.”

Mrs. Austin has been a part of the Kennett Middle School family since 2003, when she began as a Spanish teacher. She became an assistant principal in 2015. She has formed close relationships with many staff members, and approximately 30 current and former Kennett staff attended the ceremony. Kennett parent and former school board member Mrs. Heather Schaen served as photographer for the day.

“It will be a strange and new transition to go from Ms. Levi, which so many students and parents know me by, to Mrs. Austin, but it’s so exciting,” said Mrs. Austin. “One of the best parts was having my Kennett family be part of the day.”

PA Department of Health Updates Immunization Policy

In March 2017, the Pennsylvania Department of Health amended its regulations regarding school immunizations. These regulations take effect August 1, 2017 and will impact students for the 2017-2018 school year. The amendments will affect many students in the Kennett Consolidate School District and any student who is not in compliance by August 28, 2017 will face exclusion.

Changes taking effect:

  1. The deadline for immunization verification is now the first day of the 2017-2018 school year, August 28th 2017. Previously, school administrators could work with students and families until well into the school year before a student faced exclusion. This is no longer the case. Any student who has not provided proof of immunization by August 28, 2017 will face exclusion.
  2. Any student who has only received 3 doses of the polio vaccination will need a 4th dose by August 28, 2017. This amendment could affect students of any grade.
  3. For students entering the 7th grade, vaccinations remain the same (Tdap & Meningitis Vaccines), but are now subject to the new deadline of August 28, 2017.
  4. Seniors in the 2017-2018 school year will now need a meningitis vaccine by August 28, 2017. This is the second of two meningitis vaccines that are required for students.

Letters will be mailed to students informing them of their status. If you have any questions regarding where your child stands, you can contact your school’s nurse before June 14.
