Athletics
KCSD student-athletes perform in the classroom and on our state-of-the-art fields. Kennett Middle School (KMS) programs serve as a pipeline for those determined to be Blue Demons. Our community is also home to ample youth leagues for our youngest players. At KCSD, athletics are generously supported by the Kennett Area Booster Club (KABC), a 501(c)(3).
See our Athletic Section for more information about athletic schedules, eligibility, and physicals.
Student Council
Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade can join Student Council. Students involved in Student Council volunteer as guides for Back to School Night, Fall and Spring Parent Conferences, and Spring Open House. They also sponsor various events such as “We Wear Pink on Wednesdays” in October for the Breast Cancer Foundation, the “Give As Much As You Can” canned food drive in November to benefit the Kennett Food Cupboard, and the school-wide holiday card writing campaign for area nursing homes and senior centers.
Student Council meets occasionally during lunches. Student Council hosts a carnation sale each February and donates proceeds to a charitable cause significant to the school and/or local community. Student Council also orchestrates Spirit Week, which precedes the annual Student-Faculty Basketball Game.
A Special Activity Message
The KMS Theater is proud to announce that our musical for May of 2025 will be Frozen! We need singers, actors, dancers, painters, set builders, costume makers, and lots of stage crew for lights, props, and sets!
Any student interested in performing on stage or working backstage should come to one of the two interest meetings which will be held on Thursday, January 9th and Tuesday, January 14th from 2:35–5:00 PM in the cafeteria. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Coe in B004.
After-The-Bell
Need something to do after school? After-The-Bell is for you! This community-based program combines community members' expertise and middle school students' interests. After-The-Bell is free, and transportation home is provided.
Fall, winter, and spring sessions meet Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons for six weeks. Sessions begin with a snack at 3:00 P.M. and end at 5:00 P.M. For more information, visit the After-the-Bell website or visit the After-The-Bell office in room C106 at Kennett Middle School.
Activity Spotlight: KMS Musical
We are proud of our tradition of performing outstanding musicals on the middle school stage (from the Broadway Jr. Series.) such as Annie, The Wizard of Oz, Guys and Dolls, Bye Bye Birdie, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
These student productions are assisted by enthusiastic and experienced staff directors. Our directors begin with the belief that all students should have the opportunity to participate in the musical. Everyone who tries out for a part is involved in the show in some way. There are roles for singers, dancers, actors, extras, and those most important folks: the stage, light and sound crew!
